What do you think about this?

New Sabah Times report (April 26, 2009)

RM20 for every blood donor

KENINGAU: The Kampung Mempikit Laut JKKK is organizing a blood donation campaign on May 1 and as a token of appreciation, every donor will receive RM20.

Organizing chairman Chee Eng Kong said the payment was not merely to encourage more people to donate blood for a good cause but also to appreciate their contribution to society.

“We have set aside RM1,000 for this purpose,” he said.

My opinion is when we are paid for something we donate it ceases to be a donation.
I really hope this is as far as it goes...that it wont escalate to the point that people will have to be paid for every drop of blood they donate. If it does then blood will have become a commodity.

i am making my dissatisfaction known arising from this gov practice in waving dollar signs to encourage people to donate blood, this is not the way to promote awareness in fact counterproductive in its intention to help your fellow man..

it just stinks of capitalism.

Shakehead Shakehead

This is very bad. Bad, bad behaviour.

Wonder if they thought of that whole, "paying for it would make the donation aspect obsolete" part.

Hmm...

I've always wanted to make a blood donation. We get a lot of drives going on here. But i never make it to the centre on time. Not that i'm squimish. Just bad timing. I shall go this year.
Along with my blood they would also find strong traces of caffeiene. I also hear that they give you a cup of Milo after the donation. Laughing
So how's about it fellas? I'll meet you at the lounge chairs, save me a clean needle.

But then what's a RM20 pint of blood compared to this? http://www.slate.com/id/2164177/
